Probability Laboratory at Bath

Welcome to the Probability web pages at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at The University of Bath. On these webpages you will find information about the group members on the left panel, about our research interests, seminars and graduate courses on the right panel. See also our archive for past activities including workshops, Ph.D. supervisions and undergraduate and M.Sc. project supervisions. Below are recently posted updates on other group activities.

We are always on the look out for very talented young mathematicians who wish to do a Ph.D. in probability. Please do not hesitate to contact any of the permanent members of the group for further information.

If you are interested in undertaking a postdoctoral period of research at the laboratory, please get in touch. Very occasionally there are funded opportunities, these will be advertised separately on these webpages. However, members of the laboratory are always willing to help potential candidates write grant proposals and submit them to a variety of funding sources. These include: The Royal Society Newton International Fellowships, EPSRC research fellowship scheme, Marie Curie postdoctoral fellowship scheme and AXA Research fund amongst others. Prob-L@B has had success with all of these schemes in the past and we look forward to competing again for funding towards new and exciting projects in the future.

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Available

A 3 year postdoctoral position is available from 01/04/2013 within the Probability Laboratory in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath. The position is to work with Prof Peter Mörters on the EPSRC funded project "Emergence of condensation in stochastic systems". In this project we investigate how condensation can build up, or emerge, in complex stochastic systems. This will mostly be done by rigorous analysis of probabilistic toy models.

Two new Bath Prize Fellowships awarded

Prob-L@B is pleased to welcome Matt Roberts and Alexandre Stauffer who have both been awarded prestigious Bath Prize Fellowships. The fellowships offer Matt and Alexandre the opportunity to carry out research for an initial period of two years, supported by a start-up fund. Thereafter, they will have the opportunity to move on to a tenure track lectureship. Matt and Alexandre join Tim Rogers, who was the first such fellow to be appointed and who also has interests in random structures.
