N.B. The syllabus has changed a little since 2010/11;
principally, group theory is no longer part of Algebra 1B.

Suggested textbooks:

- "Basic linear algebra",
by T.Blyth and E.Robertson (511.84 BLY).
Efficient and closest to the course.
- "Introduction to linear algebra",
by G. Strang (512.5 STR).
Textbook for his MIT lectures.
- "Schaum's outline of theory and problems of linear algebra",
by S.Lipschutz (511.84 LIP).
Good source of worked examples.
- "Elementary linear algebra",
by H.Anton (511.84 ANT).
Goes more slowly and also further.
- "Linear algebra and matrix theory", by E.Nering (511.84 NER).
More advanced; recommended for Algebra 2A.
