Everyone is welcome at these talks and please join us for
lunch after the seminar.
Please note that this semester there will also be a
Graduate Course on
Advanced Numerical Linear Algebra by Alastair
This takes place Fridays 9.15-11.15 in 1West
The schedule of the talks for the first semester of session 2005-2006 is as follows:

by F. Tisseur and K. Meerbergen on "The Quadratic Eigenvalue
Problem" (SIAM Review 2001, pp. 235-286).
14th October Roy Mathias (Oxford/Birmingham) will
give a talk on "Quadratic Eigenvalue Problems and Related
21st October Bill Morton (Bath?) will give a talk
on "The Preissmann Box Scheme for the St Venant Equations".
28th October Stephen Langdon (Reading) will give
a talk on "High Frequency Scattering by Convex Polygons".
4th November Bruce Boutelje will give
a talk on "Time Discretisations of Semilinear Parabolic
Equations with Nonsmooth Initial Data".

on "A Posteriori Error Estimator for Photonic Crystals".
18th November Andris Lasis (Strathclyde) will
give a talk on "Discontinuous Galerkin Finite Element Methods
for Parabolic Problems: Robust a priori and a posteriori Error
25th November Corinne Arrouvel (Chemistry) will
give a talk on "Mathematical Interactions in Theoretical
Chemistry: Advances and Perspectives to Simulate Matter".

talk on "Computer Modelling of Ceramics and Mineral Surfaces at
the Atomic Level."
9th December Melina Freitag will give a talk on
"Solution of a constraint generalised eigenvalue problem using the
inexact Shift-and-Invert Lanczos method."
